10 things to ask

when interviewing a wedding photographer.

Still on the fence about choosing a professional photographer?

People often meet with us and say they don't have any questions, but you should have lots of questions!  RELAX, we have you covered!

Here is our top 10 list of questions to ask before you invest.

Question 1

Are you licensed and insured?

Accidents happen! Make sure to use a legitimate business that carries liability as well as equipment insurance to protect you and your guests as well as the photographer. And a license is a must! If they can't invest in their own business, you shouldn't invest in them.

Question 2

Is photography your full time income?

You know how stressful planning a wedding can be while working a full time job or going to school, imagine the stress of a photographer that works at another job. Your biggest day deserves full time attention from a full time professional.

Question 3

How many weddings have you photographed?

Just because someone advertises as a photographer, doesn't necessarily mean they are experienced! They say it takes 10,000 hours to master a craft! That comes out to about 5 years of working full time and closer to 10 years if you only photograph weddings! Wedding are unpredictable! Make sure you're hiring someone that can handle any situation that may happen.

Question 4

Do you have backup cameras and lighting equipment?

The only foolproof way to make sure something works is to have more of them when they dont!  Today's cameras are like any electronic device and can suddenly decide to die or stop working properly.  Make sure your photographer has backups so you can relax and keep on making memories!

Question 5

Do you use full frame professional cameras?

Full frame cameras still produce the best results in low light situations that weddings demand. Lower end consumer cameras, just can't handle the dark and moody look of most receptions. High megapixel doesn't always mean high quality. Professional cameras are built tougher and weather sealed to take on any situation. Professional lenses produce the highest quality, sharpest images. And professional lighting just makes you look your best!

Question 6

Do your cameras have 2 memory card slots?

When dealing with electronics, the best defense from failure is being pro-active.  Most all professional cameras will have 2 memory card slots to ensure your photos are safe even if a memory card fails or corrupts during or after a shoot.  Making a backup each time the shutter button is pushed should put everyone at ease!

Question 7

Can I see an entire wedding you have photographed at my venue or a similar venue?

This is hands down the best way to see how they produce a wedding.  While you look at their style and creative vision, look closely for consistent, in-focus and properly exposed images.  See how they tell a story and how that story makes you feel.

Question 8

Can I see examples of your wedding books, albums and products?

You're producing memories meant to last a lifetime, shouldn't your products be the same?  Someone can talk all day long about how good their products are.  A professional studio will have guarantees on products and prints that can last 85 years or more.  Know the quality you are investing in.   Your memories deserve it!

Question 9

Will you help me with my time line for the wedding day?

Even if you hire a wedding planner, you typically spend more time with your photographer than anyone else.  They should be able to work with you to create an efficient flow to the day that gets you the images you want, and the day you deserve!  Their job is to help reduce the stress of your most stressful day!

Question 10

Do you archive my images for free and backup off site?

How important are your wedding photos? The wedding album is still on the list of things to grab if the house ever catches fire!  And if you only have digital files, will you remember to grab your computer on the way out?  What if your hard drive crashes of you loose your phone. To last a lifetime, someone has to archive them for safe keeping.  And to ensure the photographer does this the right way, they should have at least 2 copies with 1 copy stored off site!
